By the way, unless that Argus display is constructed differently from the Argus displays I have, it's a pure plasma display, not a VFD. It's more in the Panaplex family. My Argus displays are built into touch screen modules - the tube is mounted behind a bezel, with several layers of driver boards stacked behind it. Inside the bezel, an array of metal can phototransistors encircles the screen, forming a matrix of electric eyes that provide the touch sense function.
I think that charactron is making your iPod nervous...it doesn't want to catch death foam disease.

@accutron - thanks for the info. I probably should have read the clear label on the back "Plasma Display." I took a quick look at it and assumed it was VFD. I'm not really sure with what to do with it - it has nearly 300 connectors on the back and I'm not really inclined to figure out the pinout
Regarding the Charactron - I'm not ignoring your post; I'm trying to figure out what a fair value is.

Here is a picture of an Argus industrial display module that I have, which I think uses a nearly identical display tube.
This thing is ridiculous, there are five stacked PCB's and two of them are covered with vast seas of TO92 package transistors. You can see the gold cans of the touch sense array around the edge... you could practically browse the Internet on this thing if only it were possible to decode the communication protocol. The display has 12x40 characters, each consisting of a 5x7 matrix plus a five pixel cursor line. That's 19,200 segments to keep track of and multiplex, an obscene amount. I think the Argus plasma panels are a tube that falls in the same realm as the Soviet 32x32 plasma arrays... sure it is 'technically' possible to build a controller for one, but the act of routing and soldering thousands of transistors will drive the user into a murderous rage.
