IN-18 - The Best Kit was created by mclegg
Hi Everyone

I used a Rev6 kit for some GN-4 tubes and its started the addiction.
I now have 6x IN-18, and am wanting a kit that is similar and have similar features to that of the Rev6.
They are currently on a GRA-AFCH board, but Im not a fan of it. It does not have WiFi, no proximity sensing, no LDR for dimming, etc.
I have been told - by Ian himself - that IN-18's should not be Multiplexed.

So whats the best way to do this?

Cheers,

Have you been in contact with Ian recently? I know he was working on designing a IN-18 kit but I don't know how that project has been going. I would think that the kit would be similar in features etc. to his other kits. But does the IN-18 kit exist? I'm not sure...

I always have preferred direct drive over multiplexed. As to whether multiplexing is bad for the tubes or okay, well, that's an old debate and there are many opinions. I too have read that IN-18 should not be multiplexed. I'm not sure of the reason, probably something to do with the high current that multiplex must put through the tubes in order to get decent brightness.

I brought up Ian in my earlier post because I think(?) you said you are looking to buy a kit for your IN-18s. If Ian has a IN-18 kit like I think he might, I'd expect it's direct drive and has the same basic feature set as all his other kits. But you'd need to ask him!

I took over the project from Ian and made an IN-18 DirectDrive board.
Unfortunately there are no assembly instructions for this PCB yet.

That's a nice looking PCB. It looks like you are using SuperTex (Microchip) drivers, yes? Those are the drivers I prefer for my one-off Nixie projects - they are great. How are you generating the +180V? Hardware controlled or controlled from the Wemos (like Ian's kits)?

Regarding the instructions, maybe I can assist? If so let me know and we can discuss in email. Unfortunately English is the only language I am fluent in. But in English I am a pretty good tech writer.
