It really is on my list of things to do to get this idea going again.
The project works fine, but I was never happy with the "ghosting" that can be seen when the digits are very bright. This is due to the bus not being discharged on time and the residual charge showing up very faintly. I added some pull down resistors and that "solved" it, but it just didn't feel like the right way of doing things. Ideally, we would have a "push-pull" driver to actively discharge the segment bus, but that is a bridge too far for this design.
So I shelved the project because I don't like things that are not quite right.
However, it does work, and I may well take another run at it in the near future.
