Jeff - that clock looks really nice. But I noticed it doesn't seem to do a slot machine effect. Does it not need it because of the correct drive??
Some of the earlier IN-18's (pre 1988) have serious issues with oxide contaminants sputtering to the unused cathodes. Although I never used the junk early dated IN-18 tubes, some who have purchased the kit didn't know better. A means to counter the effect is to cycle the digits at regular interval. One feature that many entrepreneurs have added is the "slot machine".
The display of the NixiSat/NixiChron/GPSII scrolls, and so the slot machine was/is unnecessary.
Some owners have enabled added features in the scroll, Date, Temp, Lat/Lon coordinates on a user assigned interval. The regular scroll cycles unused cathodes.
