I took these photos of this 2GB SODIMM from my laptop and I noticed some odd traces. What is the point of this elaborate snaking when he rest of the board has clean, short path traces?

Yup SDRAM has very tight timing. Trace length can factor in. So every data line and address line needs to be of near equal length. It isn' really an issue until the entire trace reaches multiple inches, like on a PC motherboard.
