Is this (click on the image to see the full resolution picture of the madness):

KABTronics TubeClock

I'll be testing myself against it in a fight to the death:

  • 215 Transistors
  • 518 Diodes
  • 472 Resistors
  • 101 Capacitors
  • 10" x 14" Printed Circuit Board with silk screen symbols indicating component locations

Who will win? (My money is on the clock).

Bloody hell Ian - you're going to coat your lungs with solder fumes!

My idea of a perfect weekend!

That'll keep you busy. My son suggested I build a clock like this: http://www.jogis-roehrenbude.de/Leserbriefe/Bruegmann-Digital-Roehren-Clock/Digital-Roehrenuhr.htm

What you really need is one of these:

None of that newfangled transistor nonsense...

Hmmm. That begs the question of whether you could use nixie tubes to create a nixie tube clock, if all you need is a difference between striking and maintaining voltage. IN-3s spring to mind, but a 10 state switch would be more ambitious....

Perhaps a suitable topic to get someone started on neonixie?

Ha ha...I have one of these too Ian and I haven't rallied the courage to tackle it yet....going to be a monster build. I may just wait for your take on it before I fire up the iron....best of British!
